It is Iris Season!

The irises have begun to bloom at Hatcher Garden and Woodland Preserve. Besides the common bearded irises (identified by their bushy “beards” that sit on top of the falls - the lower petals), we have a wide range of beardless irises. Flowers range in size from small, like the Copper Iris (Iris fulva). to the larger flowers of the bearded and Japanese irises (which will bloom in a week or two in the bog garden located in the Water Wise Demonstration Garden). Though, a majority of irises are gathered in the space between the Jess Taylor Pavilion and the Water Wise Demonstration Garden, others can be found scattered throughout the garden.
