Dahlia Fun Facts:
Did you know dahlias are native to Mexico and Central America? The Aztecs grew them. European explorers brought them to Europe where they became all the rage.
Dahlia derives its genus name from Swedish botanist Anders Dahl. As a tribute to Dahl's contributions to botany, Spanish botanist Antonio José Cavanilles named the flower in his honor.
The United States Postal Service is releasing a set of ten stamps featuring the dahlia in late April. Using natural light, the pink, white, yellow, magenta and red blossoms were photographed in private gardens. Look for them at your local post office after April 26, 2025.
