Highlights From Twilight in the Garden 2026

On a warm Spring evening Hatcher Garden held its annual Twilight in the Garden extravaganza. Cribb’s Catering provided the delicious food. Fresh off of her appearance at the Music in the Children’s Garden with Remedy 58, Tipton Boiter-Jones provided the atmospheric music for the event.

Along with announcement of the Gold Ticket and winebarrow winners, Jamie Hendrick and Shearon Lenderman were recognized as this year’s Barrie Bain Volunteers of the Year. Jamie was recognized for being Garden Manager Peggy Henderson’s right hand man checking on and filling the bird feeders as well as surveying the garden and emptying trash cans when Peggy is not in. Shearon was recognized for her dedication and extensive work to remove invasive plants throughout the garden.

The auction had many wonderful items to bid on. Also up for sale were the Milliken Oak (Quercus lyrata ‘Milliken’), a variant of the Overcup Oak found on the Millken & Company headquarters property. The species is patented with rights assigned to the Noble tree Foundation. It was first noticed by Stewart Winslow, an avid plantsman in the mid 1990’s. Also introduced was the Hatcher Garden Wish List where patrons by scanning the QR code could help fund some of the needed items for the daily maintenance of the garden.
