A Bird Sanctuary for Humans to Enjoy

Nearing its completion, the Wade Family Bird Sanctuary is a great place to watch the birds (or squirrels if you like to see them try to get to the bird seed) drop by eat some seeds. The wood deck stands near where the former Children’s Gazebo that once stood on the Mary Black Foundation Woodland Trail. When Hurricane Helene swept through the Upstate in the fall of 2024, one of the casualties was the gazebo which was flattened by fallen trees. The new deck has a bench for sitting and railing to lean on to watch our feathered friends. Black-eyed Susan is one of the type of perennials planted around the space.
